Antoniolupi Introduces New Pedestal Sink Made from Recycled Stone

The Italian bath brand Antoniolupi has introduced a new pedestal sink that is made from leftover bits of various types of marble.

024 is a freestanding marble sink made from 24 segments of marble glued together with resin adhesive in a contrasting color. The brand says the design intent behind the sink is to consider environmental sustainability by using recycled materials. This sink, together with Gessati and Rigati, is part of the Tra_Le_Righe collection by Gumdesign for antoniolupi.

To produce the sink, Antoniolupi took leftover marble pieces, cut them into a trapezoidal shape, and then glued together. Of the two Gessati and Rigati sinks the brand previously introduced, 024 uses the same process with which the marble strips are glued together with contrasting color resins. For the Gessati sink, however, the brand glued the strips in a vertical orientation; they used a horizontal orientation for Rigati; and decided on a radial configuration to obtain the desired shape for the 024.

“The black and white symbol of universal and timeless elegance is interpreted in the pedestal sink in a very coherent contemporary meaning, through a solution that generates new perspectives and unusual optical effects through which to generate different perspectives,” the company says. “The basin of the sink is in Carrara marble with black resin, the column, in contrast, is in Nero Marquina with white resin. This generates a chromatic balance that modifies the perception of volumes, lightening and elongating them without affecting the harmony of the whole.”

Each sink measures 17 inches wide by 34.4 inches tall. For the torso the wedges are much smaller, which makes the sink weigh only 110 pounds. Antoniolupi says the aesthetics of 024 are elegant and sober, like a pinstripe suit marked by black and white, which are the colors that unite the entire Tra_Le_Righe collection.

"024 is a sink with a path marked by the rhythm of ingenuity, creativity and craftsmanship" says Gumdesign, the italian-based designer of the sink. "As the hands of the clock mark the time, here each line marks the definition of an idea that becomes reality, in all its strength and complexity. The result is an object of architectural simplicity and beauty, which, leaving behind the executive and conceptual complexity that has shaped it, becomes a timeless and eternal object".
