OUTCOME:

Your Comment Letters Had a Huge Impact! Thank You!

Dear Hillside Supporter,

Well, it took a long while to get there, but the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors just took a big step by approving the East San Gabriel Valley Area Plan. The vote was unanimous to adopt the Plan. There will be one more “reading” of the new ordinance in the next few months to fully adopt it, but this was the big step. The next approval is just a formality. Much of the Aera Energy land in Los Angeles County is now zoned one unit per 40 acres. This means any development potential on the land is limited to about 65 houses

Many thanks to Hills For Everyone Board Member Bob Henderson for going to the meeting and testifying. And, to the Habitat Authority Executive Director Andrea Gullo as well. They had to literally sit through hours and hours of testimony and discussion on other items that preceded this agenda item.

Thank you also to other non-profits, Endangered Habitats League and Center for Biological Diversity, who testified by phone to support this Plan and to the scores of residents who sent emails to the Board of Supervisors. Your participation in this decision had a huge impact.Thank you!

Both Supervisor Hilda Solis and Supervisor Janice Hahn called out the long-standing preservation efforts of the Puente-Chino Hills Wildlife Corridor.

Aera Energy representatives showed up in force – with consultants, an attorney, and a Vice President complaining they had not been informed and had not been given due process. County staff calmly recounted all of the contact that had been going on and the history of the plans for the property. We shall see what Aera does next.

In the meantime, let's celebrate this success! Below are a few photos from the live stream video.

Thank you,

Claire Schlotterbeck
