Dear Hillside Supporter,

We’ve all been captivated by stories on TV and social media where an animal is in distress and a rescue is underway.

We are glued to the stories—we simply must know the ending. Is the eagle freed from the tangled fishing line? Will the moose be helped out of the frozen pond? Was the fox freed from the can stuck over its muzzle?

These instances of kindness and courage, when humans go out of their way to help, are examples of our innate affinity for other living things.

This affinity has been named biophilia. The term was coined by the late conservation biologist E.O. Wilson. In part, it’s what drives conservation work.

Saving land is the broadest expression of human kindness.

Will you help Hills For Everyone (HFE) as we conserve lands for wildlife to thrive in? I hope so.

Certainly, many human actions, planned and accidental, have caused tremendous harm to the natural world, but there is that other spirit in us.

Biophilia embraces a core value of HFE as we work on a wider scale to protect the Puente-Chino Hills Wildlife Corridor not just for our enjoyment, but also to sustain the lives of wild things we love to see—be it a beautiful old oak or a bobcat.

Because of your ongoing support, we know that you share the same core values.

Your support allows us to continue to protect even more natural lands and the plants and animals that call them home.

We must provide wildlife adequate spaces for their secret places needed for long-term survival—mating, nurseries, and food sources.

Would you support our work before the end of the year to ensure our connections to other living creatures continues? I hope so.

You can donate online: HillsForEveryone.org/Donate.

Thank you for your ongoing support.

Sincerely,

Claire Schlotterbeck
