13th Annual Peanut Free Night at Regions Field Presented by Alabama Allergy & Asthma Center, soon to be AllerVie Health

BIRMINGHAM, ALABAMA / AGILITYPR.NEWS / August 03, 2021 / 13th Annual Peanut Free Night at Regions Field Presented by Alabama Allergy & Asthma Center, soon to be AllerVie Health

Alabama Allergy & Asthma Center, soon to be AllerVie Health, will sponsor Peanut Free Night at Regions Field tonight, August 3, 2021, as the Birmingham Barons take on the Mississippi Braves at 7:05 PM.

For the thirteenth year, the Barons stadium will undergo a weeklong cleaning and pressure washing to remove all traces of peanuts to allow fans with peanut allergies to enjoy a game in complete comfort. All peanuts and products containing peanuts will be removed from the park. Peanuts will also be prohibited from being brought into the stadium. While some major league teams offer "peanut-free seating areas" in their stadiums, the Birmingham Barons have become just one of a few professional baseball teams to host this type of full ballpark endeavor. Along with Peanut Free Night, the Barons have also offered multiple nights of Peanut Free Sections at the ballpark. The remaining dates for those sections are 8/5, 8/29, and 9/11.

According to FARE (Food Allergy Research & Education), 32 million Americans are affected by food allergies, with a food allergy reaction sending someone to the emergency room every three minutes. Peanut allergy is now the nation’s most common childhood food allergy, affecting 1.6 million children in the United States. Contact with the proteins contained in peanuts may cause a life-threatening reaction for those who are allergic, and peanut allergy is the most common cause of food-related deaths.

Doctors and researchers are getting closer to solving the mystery of food allergies with advances in food allergy diagnostics and testing, as well as innovations in desensitization for food allergies. Many peanut allergy sufferers are forced to avoid situations and places where they may encounter peanuts or even traces of peanuts. Baseball parks and games are places where this is usually unavoidable, and many who are allergic have never attended a baseball game.

To provide those who suffer from peanut allergy the opportunity to safely experience a baseball game, there will be no peanuts, peanut shells, or any peanut remnants at tonight’s game. Alabama Allergy & Asthma, soon to be AllerVie Health, and the Birmingham Barons are proud to offer this to our community and peanut allergy sufferers!
