GOGO Noanswer Dorane is angry with the police from Harare in Khayelitsha, Cape Town.
This after the 60-year-old was allegedly beaten up by a man in the presence of officers on 21 March.
She said a group of people came to her house demanding their belongings, that they claimed were stolen by her addict son, Siyasanga (33).
She said the group ransacked his shack, but found nothing.
They then forcibly entered her house, so gogo called her daughter from Litha Park, who called the police.
Cops came and she thought they would stop the mob, but she was instead attacked.
“The crowd beat up Siyasanga, ransacked my house and stole my food, including meat from the fridge. They also stole a speaker from one of my tenant’s shacks. When I asked why they were taking things that didn’t belong to them, one of them slapped me and I hit my head against the wall. He did that in my kitchen while cops were in the same room.”
Noanswer said she told one of the officers that she was beaten up and pointed out the culprit, but they did nothing.
When she asked why they were not intervening, one of the cops allegedly said he didn’t see anyone slapping her and she should open a case.
She said when she opened a case, she told cops she was assaulted by a tall man and gave a name he was known by.
But cops allegedly told her she must give them a full name.
“They said they cannot arrest him because there are a lot of people with the same name.
“I am traumatised by the incident and have nightmares. One night I fell off my bed, which started after the incident. My head was swollen after being attacked.”
Her daughter, Princess Koni (42), said after attacking her mother, the group took Siyasanga to an open space in Endlovini area and beat him up.
“When I arrived, four cops were standing there as the group was attacking my brother. They were supposed to put him in the van and call an ambulance, but they didn’t. They only rushed him to Khayelitsha District Hospital after I intervened,” she said.
Sergeant Wesley Twigg confirmed that the gogo opened cases of assault and malicious damage to property at Harare cop shop, and cops were being investigating.
Regarding allegations against cops, Twigg said: “If the complainant is not happy with the service she received from police members, she is advised to lodge a formal complaint at Harare SAPS so the allegations can be investigated.”
When Daily Sun spoke to Noanswer about the advise from cops, she said she would go on Friday, 22 April.
“I know the cops who were there that day. Even if they can say I should point them out, I’ll definitely do it,” she said.
