I am beyond excited to be a part of the 2024 cohort for the Women's Directorship Programme at HKU Business School. Being an adjunct professor for the last three years, it’s going to be very different being on the student side of the classroom and I’m so looking forward to learning from the esteemed list of instructors and to connect with women leaders from such an impressive group of organisations. With an estimated 1000 board seats specifically for women coming online in the next 12 months, the timing couldn’t be better. I usually frequent real estate conferences so it was delightful to be in town for the Haymarket Media Group Campaign Asia-Pacific Spotlight Hong Kong summit yesterday. There were some amazing brands represented and I enjoyed hearing from leaders like Cheuk Shum from HSBC on being disruptive, taking (educated) risks and thinking outside of the box when it comes to marketing innovation. I also thoroughly enjoyed the great debate - should ESG sit under the marketing function or not, moderated by Kiri Sinclair and hotly contested between Helene Li and Sonalie Figueiras. Still not sure what side of the line I sit on, but both presented super valid points for discussion. Also great to reconnect with Gerard Stephen Timbol (he/him/his). As I approach the end of the semester teaching my 6th semester of Collaborative Problem Solving at School of Communication and Media at Montclair State University, it was an especially exciting day. This course explores theories and techniques that bolster team-based creativity and decision making and as contemporary organisations increasingly move from individualised, top-down problem-solving processes to team-managed approaches, they require new communication competencies in order to innovate. Today we were lucky to have a guest speaker join our class, none other than my wonderful fiancé Michael Hallberg, who shared about his very interesting and unique background and business experiences, and answered some questions at the front of many graduating university students' minds: 💪 Major lessons you have learned: Never give up - you probably won't get the first, second or event third job you apply for. Don't let that break your confidence in your ability. 👩💼 👨💼 How do you deal with multiple stakeholders and people from different cultures: LISTEN. Listen to them first and foremost, and show that you want to understand where they are coming from. Then discuss. 🆘 Problem solving techniques you have found most useful: Ask questions and don't be married to your ideas. 📣 Skills that will set you apart in the candidate pool: Communication and problem solving skills, the ability to think outside of the box, and knowledge about multiple fields, not just your own area of expertise. 💡 Any tips for first-time interviewees: Be yourself, but cross your T's and dot your I's. I.ee., get the name of your interviewer and company correct, do background research and come prepared. Big thanks to all my amazing network colleagues, friends and now family that have contributed to my course over the years. It's always a highlight for my students to have the opportunity to hear about real life experiences and ask questions of business professionals. What an amazing time visiting Tokyo and celebrating the launch of our newest centre JP Tower. I’m always so inspired by The Executive Centre’s design evolution, and this centre is the newest and in my opinion one of the best in our ever-growing portfolio. With a state of the art bar (with an excellent bartender), beautiful views, and a ton of different places to work, this is the next and best from TEC. After a short break, back on the speaking circuit and after just visiting Tokyo, I can truly say this is going to be epic. The city is vibrant and full of life and is really a new global Mecca with more potential than ever. I can’t wait to meet our APAC ULI community and feel honoured to be able to take the stage on behalf of WLI Hong Kong and as a member of the ExCo. Super excited that my most recent article "Automation and AI in the workplace: The future of work is more complex than ever" has been published in the Journal of AI, Robotics and Workplace Automation. Artificial intelligence and automation are revolutionising the workplace, transforming the way businesses operate, how people interact and having an impact on the future of work. These technologies have the potential to enhance productivity, address societal challenges and contribute to economic growth. With machines becoming increasingly capable, they can now perform tasks previously done by humans, complement human work and even surpass human capabilities in certain areas. As a result, the nature of work is changing, with some occupations declining, others growing and many more undergoing significant transformations. This paper explores the promise and challenges of AI automation in the workplace, highlighting key workforce transitions and presenting several critical issues that need to be solved. I was super lucky to have been in Ho Chi Minh City last week and able to participate in the The Business Executive Network Vietnam workshop on leadership. While I teach a course on Collaborative Problem Solving, it’s always great to be on the learning side of things and to be able to share experiences with other business professionals. While we had some great discussions around leadership and communication, I have to say my absolute favourite moment was learning about the history behind the traditional Chinese symbol for “Listen”. This single character is actually a combination of six different characters, and when you look at their individual meanings combined, it adds such a complex and beautiful layer of wisdom to the word listen. 👂: to hear Ten 👁️: to see from ten perspectives One ❤️: to give with a full heart 🤴: if you apply all these practices people will listen, and people will follow It’s the combination of empathy, honesty, generosity and kindness that makes a true leader. This was an amazing reminder that leadership is complicated and it takes effort and commitment because it’s not easy, but it’s worth everything. #leadership #leader #wisdom #Businessleader #empathy

Really excited to represent The Executive Centre on the advisory committee for this exciting project. Only in recent years has the flexible workspace industry moved out from the fringes of corporate real estate, so it's amazing to be part of the team that is trying to develop frameworks to evaluate quality and experience, and to create benchmarks that can help the industry improve. Being WELL certified is already a testament to a development's commitment to sustainability, but what about the spaces inside those buildings? As the leading flexible workspace provider in Asia, The Executive Centre has always gone above and beyond to build thoughtful, sustainable, and ergonomic workspaces that inspire productivity and at the same time recognise that people work in different ways and thus need different spaces to cater to their needs. My hope is that through this exploration we are able to develop a really useful handbook that helps both providers and tenants alike evaluate more accurately a flex experience, and I am confident that #TEC will be the leader in the pack.
