GETTING PERSONAL | Steven Trosin GETTING PERSONAL WITH Steven from Trosin has engaged with music throughout his life in roles ranging songwriter to concert promoter. Arriving at the JSO as Interim Community Relations Manager, Steven began the successful JSO’s Music on Tap Series. Having served the JSO for over 8 years, Steven is now the Executive Director. Steven has a Bachelor’s Degree from Miami University in Oxford, OH, and Master’s Degrees from Central Michigan University and The University of Michigan. He lives in Jackson with his wife, Monica, and their two dogs, Romeo and Tip. WHAT’S THE CAREER HIGHLIGHT YOU’RE MOST PROUD OF? The creation of the JSO’s Music on Tap Series is something I’m really proud of. Music on Tap is a non-classical series where we bring both nationally and internationally touring artists to Jackson to perform at Weatherwax Hall. That series is about to enter its 9th season. I’m always blown away when I look out at the crowd at one of those concerts and know that it’s something that started as just an idea and is now approaching a full decade worth of performances. WHAT WAS YOUR FIRST JOB? My Dad owned a machine shop in Jackson, and I was a janitor there. I would go after school and empty trash cans, sweep the floors, clean the restrooms, and fill the pop machine. WHAT CAREER ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO YOUR YOUNGER SELF? Trust your gut. A lot of well-meaning people will give you advice, but that advice comes from their perspective. You know what makes sense to you. Follow that path and trust that it will work out. WHAT’S THE ONE ALBUM THAT’S ALWAYS ON REPEAT? I love lots of different music and will often go on kicks where I will listen to a new band until my wife is begging me to put something else on. That being said, the band I always return to is The Replacements and my favorite album of theirs is probably Let It Be . I’ve been listening to that record for close to 40 years and I can still find new things in it, plus I think Paul Westerberg’s song writing is the work of a true genius. WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE SEASON AND WHY? It’s hard to beat Summer in Michigan. I love to spend time outside, whether on a bicycle or a stand-up-paddle board and the longer days give a great opportunity to soak up the beautiful outdoor rec opportunities that our area of Southern Michigan has to offer. 6 • November 2022 / Field Notes / JacksonMagazine.com twitter.com/JacksonMagazine
