Stronger Together

In the early days of The Center, over 30 years ago, we frequently quoted these inspiring words by famed cultural anthropologist Margaret Mead as our unofficial vision statement: “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it's the only thing that ever has.”

As one of the few, loud and sometimes lonely voices advocating for the importance of the built environment in healthcare, we found encouragement and purpose in her words.

After our recent experience at our first PDC Summit, in the company of ten other like-minded, non-profit, professional industry associations – all motivated solely by the desire to improve the healthcare experience – Helen Keller’s famous admonition now rings truer for us and our future: ”Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much.”

We came to the PDC Summit as the Strategic Educational Collaborator and a new Supporting Organization with the goal of enhancing engagement between the healthcare design and provider communities to further advance improvements in health, safety and business outcomes.

On the PDC stage, sitting alongside my fellow organization leaders – deeply committed, collaborative, and brilliant in their disciplines, and representing the full spectrum of built environment stakeholders – I saw greater potential than ever for meaningful, measurable and lasting change in the healthcare environment.

We’re proud, grateful, excited and optimistic about the future this group promises and is uniquely positioned to deliver: ASHE American Society for Health Care Engineering, NIHD Nursing Institute for Healthcare Design, IAHSS International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety, FGI Facility Guidelines Institute, APIC Association for Professionals in Infection Control, ACHA American College of Healthcare Architects, AAH AIA Academy of Architecture for Health, AAHID American Academy of Healthcare Interior Designers, and AORN Association of Perioperative Registered Nurses.
