Map shows Brightline stations: Target date set for grand opening in Orlando
EDUCATION HAS SAID IT WOULD REVIEW THE CHANGES. MICHELLE: WE ARE ONLY A FEW MONTHS AWAY FROM BEING ABLE TO TAKE A HIGH-SPEED TRAIN FROM ORLANDO TO MIAMI AND OTHER SOUTH FLORIDA HOT SPOTS. WESH 2’S MEGAN MELLADO SPOKE WITH BRIGHTLINE OFFICIALS WHO SAY THEY’VE FINALLY SET AN OPENING DATE ON THEIR FACILITY AT ORLANDO INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT. >> AFTER ABOUT 10 YEARS OF ANTICIPATION, BRIGHTLINE OFFICIALS HAVE SET THE SECOND QUARTER OF 2023 AS THEIR TARGET DATE FOR THE GRAND OPENING OF THEIR STATION AT ORLANDO INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT. DIRECTOR OF PUBLIC AFFAIRS, KATIE MITZNER, SAYS MORE THAN 7 BILLION HOURS OF CONSTRUCTION SO FAR HAVE THE PROJECT AT ABOUT 90% COMPLETE. >> OUR STATION WILL BE COMPLETED IN THE NEXT MONTH. OUR VEHICLE MAINTENANCE FACILITY WHERE WE ARE TODAY HAS BEEN COMPLETED AND WILL BE OPENING SOON, AND SO AS WE HIT ALL OF THESE MILESTONES, WE’RE NOW GETTING READY TO COMPLETE THE CORRIDOR AND THEN THE NEXT STEP IS TESTING. >> TRAINS WILL BE TESTED ALONG THE BEACHLINE AT SPEEDS UP TO 125 MILES AN HOUR. >> WE WANT PEOPLE TO BE AWARE, YOU’RE GOING TO START TO SEE TRAINS, PAY ATTENTION TO THE ROAD, WE’RE GOING TO DO OUR JOB OVER THERE AND GET OPERATIONAL TO ORLANDO. >> WHEN IT IS ALL SAID AND DONE, BRIGHTLINE WILL HAVE 10 TRAINS GOING FROM ORLANDO TO MIAMI. EACH OF THEM WILL BE NAMED BY A COLOR. TAKE THIS ONE FOR EXAMPLE, ' ’BRIGHTGREEN’ 2. >> WE HAVE 5 STATIONS, MIAMI, AVENTURA, FT. LAUDERDALE, BOCA, AND WEST PALM, SO WE HAVE FIVE TRAINS THAT SERVICE SOUTH FLORIDA. WE’VE ORDERED 5 ADDITIONAL TRAINS, 4 OF THEM HAVE BEEN DELIVERED TO FLORIDA. >> THE LAS

After about 10 years of anticipation, Brightline officials have set the second quarter of 2023 as their target date for the grand opening of their station at Orlando International Airport.Director of Public Affairs, Katie Mitzner, says more than seven million hours of construction so far have the project at about 90% complete.“Our station will be completed in the next month. Our vehicle maintenance facility where we are today has been completed and will be opening soon, and so as we hit all of these milestones, we’re now getting ready to complete the corridor and then the next step is testing,” Mitzner said.Trains will be tested along the beachline at speeds up to 125 miles an hour. There are no public crossings on that stretch of track.“We want people to aware. You’re going to start to see trains, pay attention to the road, we’re going to do our job over there and get operational to Orlando,” Mitzner said.Mitzer told WESH 2 it's important people stay aware."It's always a good reminder, (a) very simple message that can save your life — stay off the tracks," he said.When it’s all said and done, Brightline will have 10 trains going from Orlando to Miami. Each of them will be named by a color.“We have five stations, Miami, Aventura, Ft. Lauderdale, Boca, and West Palm, so we have five trains that service South Florida.
