SPEEDY Mashilo has rubbished claims that he sells RDP houses.

The Mpumalanga human settlements MEC was responding to a video circulating on TikTok, claiming he sells them for R25 000.

His office released a statement reading: “The department is firm and resolute that the video is nothing but an attempt to defraud unsuspecting public members using the name of MEC Mashilo in vain.”

When the SunTeam called Mashilo for comment, he said he didn’t know anything about selling houses and that the video was posted to tarnish his name.

“We have been educating communities about the illegal selling of houses and we will not stop.

“It is shameful and painful that the culprits seem to be relentless in defrauding people. RDP houses are free and no one should pay for them,” he said.

Department spokesman Freddy Ngobe said the matter was being investigated.

“Our security component will engage with their counterparts to investigate and establish the extent of this problem. We hope that this will lead to the arrest of the culprits who are misleading the public,” he said.
