“Ob-la-di, ob-la-da, Life goes on, brah, La, la, how the life goes on” 963 words 4 minute read - Let’s do this! Spring is here – can you even believe it? We have had a few days of snow this week in Buffalo, so it’s a typical Spring start around here. Also, Do you have your brackets ready for the weekend? March Madness is here too and I would love to hear your picks and plans for the March Madness weekend. As March and Q1 are coming to an end, Disruption continues to hover in 2024 in many forms – The Panama Canal/Suez Canal situations are still putting strain on ocean transit times and a rail strike in Canada is a possibility. All pending disruptions point to the need for transload solutions and Port X Logistics IS the Gold Standard in drayage, transloading and trucking. We track your containers from the time they leave overseas, dray your containers from any portland rail locations and transload with plenty of photos provided and load to outbound trucks for the fastest over the road delivery with a shareable tracking app to track drivers all the way to final destination. Transload orders have been piling up as many shippers have been taking the early initiative to speed up deliveries. Whether it was an ocean delay or to avoid the rails, but we have all the capacity in the world for you! If you want more information on how we can get your containers drayed, transloaded and trucked with full visibility - Cross border into and out of the U.S. included, contact Letsgetrolling@portxlogistics.com Some rail news: As of Tuesday, Norfolk Southern Railway now requires truckers to make an appointment to pick up import loads at its terminal in Austell, GA, just outside of Atlanta. Computer software will use the appointment data to place containers going out of the gate at the top of the stack and long-dwelling containers at the bottom, allowing for quicker truck turns. Six electric overhead cranes will manage Austell’s stack of containers. Ocean containers will also be placed into stacks rather than transferring loads from the train to a chassis and placed into a parking spot. The process is similar to how the Port of Virginia saves time by sorting through their stacks based on what containers are moving out soonest, and minimizing the need to break up stacks to get a container on the bottom. Once the Austell launch is complete, Norfolk Southern plans on putting an appointment system in its Landers (Chicago) terminal where the railroad handles ocean containers. Import TEUs are up 12.82% this week from last, the heaviest volume this week arriving to New Jersey Port 15.7% of incoming TEU volume, Long Beach 15.5% of incoming TEU volume and Los Angeles 13.1% of incoming TEU volume. Today we are sharing some insights about our purposeful approach to automation from IT Manager Blake Cooper! Here's what he had to say: "Have you ever dealt with “smart” technology that actually turned out to be pretty dumb? I’m thinking of call trees, chatbots, stuff like that. They all frequently fail to deliver on automation’s promise to make tech more reliable, while requiring less human intervention. Recent advancements in AI have renewed the conversation about what can be reliably automated. But people have been debating the value and limitations of automation for decades. When we implement these frustratingly dumb “smart” systems—typically mandated from the top down, to replace 1:1 the responsibilities of a human—we’ve forgotten what cognitive psychologist Lisanne Bainbridge called way back in 1983 “the irony of automation:” in short, automated systems are still human-made systems, and humans will always be part of the equation. This has been on my mind as I help to develop Port X Logistics’ ever-expanding tech stack. Our goal is to find new and better ways to empower our customers by giving them insight into their freight at each and every stage of the shipment lifecycle. How do we do it? Not by seeking to eliminate the human component, but by doing the opposite: we make our humans central to everything we do. When we consider automating something, we start by working directly with our operations team. We want to know: what’s “getting in the way” of delivering the gold standard of service? What do our customers need from us to feel like the logistics rock stars we know they are? And how can technology help our team deliver that? Our most successful automation projects begin with questions like these. Always. Here’s another irony: when we implement automation at Port X Logistics, it empowers our team to be exactly who they are: humans. It means more time for personal interactions with customers, more time connecting with coworkers, even more time to share memes on LinkedIn! And that’s exactly the point. 100% automation is rarely the goal. Nor should it be. Port X Logistics' foundational pillars have always been Culture, Service, Tech and Trucks, and we proudly consider all four in everything we do. It’s a winning formula that continues to enable our operators, empower our customers and help us to never lose sight of why we do what we do." #Automation #Technology #LogisticsInsights #TruckingTech #ITManager

Disruption alert - Port of Baltimore Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore was struck by a vessel this morning sending nearly the entire roadway structure into the water - The vessel was Singapore-registered Dali, operated by charter company Synergy Group and is time chartered by Maersk carrying Maersk customers’ cargo. Before shipping can resume into and out of the port, crews will need to pull debris out of the water and clear the 50-foot-deep channel that ships use, said William P. Doyle, a former director of the port who now heads the Dredging and Marine Construction Association of America. The Port of Baltimore — the biggest handler of US imports and exports of cars and light trucks — looks to be out of commission indefinitely. The resulting bottleneck could accelerate a shift of goods through West Coast ports. Another crucial question: Which other ports have spare capacity to handle the Ro-Ro vessels that carry automobiles if Baltimore is closed for an extended period? We will provide updates on vessel reroutings as they are determined - Follow us here on LinkedIn for more updates. We share our sincere condolences to all that were affected by this crash. #Baltimore #BridgeCrash #TruckingNews #Imports #PortOfBaltimore

TRADE ALERT- My TPM discussions continue with my CNBC reporting. One of the areas of growth we are seeing is in transloading. I love examining the different pipes of trade and seeing where there is opportunity. This area is growing and looks like it will continue to grow as we see the movement of trade back to the West Coast. This is an opportunity for investors wanting to learn more about transports. We are glad to end this week on a high note with yet another shipment success! On the 19th, we received an urgent update that our customer needed a container delivered no later than 3/21. At that time, the container's ETA was 3/20 at 7 AM. However, life had other plans, and the ETA was pushed to 5 PM on 3/20 and then to 6 AM on 3/21. Despite these minor setbacks, our team kept a close eye on the situation. Early on 3/21, we faced further delays, with the container not available at 7 AM as hoped. Persistence paid off when by 9 AM, we finally got the green light and our quick actions allowed for our driver to arrive at the rail by 9:30 am. Thanks to our incredible team, the container was delivered by 11 AM, with the POD in the customer's hands by 11:30 AM. BIG shoutout to our Chicago team for ensuring the shipment's timely delivery! 🌟 #ShipmentSuccess #UrgentShipment #Trucking #CaseStudy #HotShipment
